Academic departments are responsible for research, academic programs and teaching in their fields of expertise, as well as for professional development of their members. Academic departments formulate proposals and monitor the implementation of academic programs and individual courses curricula. They are also responsible for advising on hiring of academic staff in their field and nominate to the Faculty Council members of appointment committees’ for permanent academic or teaching positions. There are seven departments in the Faculty. Five are covering different fields of political science and one is covering journalism, media and communication science. The latter department is also responsible for the organization and implementation of undergraduate and graduate programs in journalism, while the corresponding responsibility for the organization of undergraduate and graduate programs in political science, as well as doctoral programs is divided between 5 political science departments. Foreign languages are coordinated by a separate department.
