DESCRIPTION:
The aim of this course is the study of Croatian national security in the context of European security. Special attention will be directed towards the study of security at national (national security concept) and regional level (regional security concept). Furthermore, the study will include: analysis of mechanisms for the achievement of national security of the Republic of Croatia; its national interests and values; threats to national security; national security system; principles and practices for conflict prevention and resolution; actions of states in the case of direct security threats and breach of peace; European security system and its impact on the national security of the Republic of Croatia. The course will also focus on the study of how global and regional dynamics affect Croatian national security. Similarly to trends in other countries, military threats to security of the Republic of Croatia have lost their previous significance. However, military factor still represents one of the factors endangering national security and should not be neglected in the design and research of security policies. Increased willingness of countries to peacefully settle interstate disputes and increased scope of multilateral cooperation in coping with security issues are among the most important positive effects for the security of the Republic of Croatia . Contemporary approach to the assessment of threats to national security is based on five sectors: military, political, societal, economic and environmental sectors.
