They will learn on different policy models and organizational hierarchy of public service media, and different systems of funding. Further, and the most important, they will learn on PSM role in society whereas it is an aid to informed citizenship; it is an agency of representative pluralism bringing together different groups in society in a common conversation that shapes public opinion. This course explores the future of traditional public service media in digital and online media landscape, with social media audiences' praxis.
The goal of this course is to invite students to discussion on the role of PSM confronting it with commercial media content and business standards. Further, the idea of single media PSM institutions will be question (e.g. BBC or RAI vs. Dutch model of PSM), as well as the role of independent non-profit media which may serve as a part of PSM model.
